About Dr. Leslie R. Welch, DC, CICE

Both Sides of the Exam Table

I’m in my 32nd year as a practicing chiropractor, and I came to independent medical examinations in an unusual way: I went through one myself. I live with chronic pain, and when I was the person being evaluated, I saw the process from a different perspective. I understood how much an examinee notices about whether they were heard, whether the examiner was prepared, and whether the process was fair.

That experience changed how I approach every evaluation. I know what it is like to be on the other side of the table, and I know how much depends on getting the opinion right for the examinee, the attorney, the adjuster, and everyone who relies on the report.

My Training and Credentials

I earned my Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Missouri. I am a Certified Independent Chiropractic Examiner (CICE) through the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME) and an approved Independent Medical Examiner on the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation Commission’s IME list. I served as an independent medical examiner for the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation Court from 1997 to 2008 and have provided medicolegal services for more than 12 years, including impairment ratings under the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, Sixth Edition.

I keep my skills current through advanced training, including the SEAK IME Skills Master’s Program, AMA Guides Sixth Edition mastery courses in musculoskeletal and neurologic rating, ABIME certification review, and AMIME advanced case studies. I have been a provider of continuing education for the insurance commissioners of Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas, and I have spoken nationally to case managers, adjusters, and claims professionals, including at the Case Management Society of America National Expo.

My Approach

I don’t work for either side. I review the records, examine the person in front of me, and give an honest, evidence-based opinion I can explain and stand behind. I treat every examinee or claimant with respect, and I write every report so the reader can see how I reached my conclusions.

Communication Is the Heart of My Practice

Accuracy and a quality report matter most, and neither happens without communication. I keep my referral source informed from the moment a case is assigned until the final report is delivered. You will know where your case stands, and you will always be able to reach me with questions.

Let’s Work Together

If you are an attorney, adjuster, claims professional, or any other referral source looking for a thorough, objective evaluation and an examiner who stays in touch, I would welcome the opportunity to work with you.
